Beware of Primus Canada – This is how they will steal your money

Beware of Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc - division of Primus Telecommunications USA – never sign with them, they are scammers, take your money, won’t give you a service, sneak extra charges you never agreed upon and even charge you for termination if you try to get rid of them.

Here is my personal experience.

I got a phone call from one of the Primus sales representatives who offered me much cheaper long distance then the phone company I was with at that time. I asked the Primus sales rep if they offer long distance to Slovakia. I was told, yes.
Then I specifically asked the sales person: "Is that month to month service?"
His answer: "Yes"
I asked again: "Can I cancel it at any time?"
He answered: "Yes". – That was all he told me.

So I signed with Primus. Now the problems started.
First of all, when the time of the change came I was full 3 days without any phone And Internet service! Since I have an Internet business I wasn’t a happy camper about that. I had to call them and tell them I will charge them for the losses – only then my line came on.

Then I tried to call my family in Slovakia. Of course, it did NOT work. I called Primus technical support many times, they promised me again and again that they are working on it, but of course it didn’t work.

Finally after couple of weeks their technician called me home to tell me that they are unable to get me a long distance to Slovakia.

So of course, I cancelled the Primus Canada service since I could not get what I purchased.
My mom, and my husband’s mom and dad are very ill, so we do need to talk to them frequently.

Imagine my surprise when I got a phone bill with some "discharge fee" of $60!
For what…? The service I Never got? And was never even told about?

The ONLY reason I ever signed with Primus Canada was because they promised me cheaper long distance calls to Slovakia! I did not have any reason to sign with them otherwise.

According to their CSR I had to tell them 30 days up front about my cancellation. Now How should I know 30 days up front they are offering something which does not exist? They kept lying me for weeks that it will work, so I would stay longer than 1 month so they then can charge me for a service I never got.

Imagine you would buy f.e. a radio, TV, computer or any other product or service which will Not do the thing you bought it for. Will you be paying for it?

Not to mention also when I got the first bill I found out that I got an extra $5 charge for a Call Display I never signed for!
That I Know for sure, since I am absolutely not curious who is calling me. I have an answering machine so why should I need to "see" who is calling me…?

Also their customer support is Horrible! The customer rep – according to names I got they were from India or such country – put me on hold and then plainly Disconnected me so many times I cannot even count.

So for your own sake, Never sign with Primus Canada, they are scammers, they will offer you a service which they don’t provide (and yes, on their website they Still offer the long distance to Slovakia even now!), they will sneak charges you never agreed to, and when you don’t get what you agree to, they will steal money from you nevertheless for some undisclosed hidden "discharge fee".
